Franklin Templeton has appointed Rene Buehlmann, the former global chief of Aberdeen Investments, as the new head of its Asia-Pacific business, starting late next month, on September 21.

Buehlmann will oversee the group’s strategic growth initiatives, client engagement, and business development efforts in the region.

Leadership Experience

Buehlmann brings over three decades of leadership experience across wealth management, asset management, and banking, having served as global CEO of Aberdeen Investments, where he led the firm’s global investment business and oversaw the Asia Pacific region.

Before joining Aberdeen Investments, he spent nearly three decades at UBS, including 15 years in Asia Pacific, holding senior wealth and asset management leadership roles.

According to Danial Gamba, co-president and chief commercial officer, Buehlmann’s leadership will be instrumental in expanding the company’s capabilities and strengthening partnerships with clients across the region.

Regional Presence

Franklin Templeton has over 2,600 employees in the Asia-Pacific region, with a presence in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Japan, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Korea, and other markets.

The company manages more than $33 billion in Australian-sourced FUM as of March this year, with the local business headed by Felicity Walsh, managing director, head of Australia and New Zealand.

Buehlmann stated that he is delighted to join Franklin Templeton and lead the Asia Pacific business, looking forward to working with the talented teams to deepen client relationships and deliver the full breadth of the platform across the region.
